The Premier’s Innovation Awards

Ontario’s ability to compete for jobs and investment depends on creating economic value through innovation. That’s why the province launched Ontario’s Innovation Agenda, a $3.2-billion strategy to invest in research and industries where Ontario has a global competitive advantage. We are building on Ontario’s creative environment, diverse culture, highly skilled workforce, world-class educational system and internationally recognized research community to create the jobs of the future.

The Premier’s Innovation Awards are part of Ontario’s Innovation Agenda. They celebrate Ontario’s world-class research and innovation strength, honouring remarkable people who are inventing our future and shaping our world.

The Premier’s Innovation Awards consist of:

  • The Premier's Catalyst Awards honour those who help build a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship in Ontario. These awards recognize breakthrough technology that has the potential to impact Ontario’s economy, society and/or sustainable development. Awards are presented in five categories:
    • Best Young Innovator
    • Start-up Company with the Best Innovation
    • Innovator of the Year
    • Company with the Best Innovation
    • Lifetime Achievement.
  • The Premier’s Discovery Awards celebrate Ontario’s most accomplished researchers. These awards showcase individual achievements, demonstrating Ontario’s attractiveness as a global research centre. They recognize excellence in research for either a single discovery or a body of work in:
    • The Life Sciences and Medicine
    • Natural Sciences and Engineering
    • The Social Sciences
    • The Arts and Humanities
    • Innovation Leadership.
  • The Premier’s Summit Award in Medical Research celebrates and supports outstanding medical researchers, helping them significantly expand their research programs. These winners are internationally recognized leaders in medical research, whose work is having a substantial impact on medical science and health care delivery here in Ontario and around the world. The Premier’s Summit Award helps attract and keep these exceptional researchers in Ontario. It is administered on behalf of Ontario by the MaRS Discovery District.
