A Sudbury Region Success Story
Jannatec shines the light on mining safety innovation
The world comes to Sudbury for its mining expertise, and one company attracting attention from around the globe is Jannatec Radio Technologies
.

Jannatec's Johnny Light Radio Cap Lamp
Jannatec makes a cutting-edge mining cap light that greatly increases the safety of miners. Its LED lamp is the first of its kind in the world. What makes the newest generation “Johnny Light Radio Cap Lamp” so special is that it comes with a collision avoidance system — a device placed on the dashboard of underground vehicles alerts drivers to nearby miners and vice versa. The device also comes equipped with a wireless tracking system that tracks miners & vehicles while underground. In an emergency it’s like an automatic roll call as miners enter a refuge station. And the new LED bulb in the helmet lasts five times longer than others currently on the market.
It’s these kinds of innovations that not only improve both safety for mining employees, but also provides cost savings for companies — bringing wealth and jobs into the community. And it’s these kinds of innovations that have mining companies from around the world knocking on Jannatec’s doors.
Jannatec has expanded from two founders to employing 24 staff. They’ve recently moved into new offices at Northern Centre for Advanced Technology Research Inc. (NORCAT)
where they will be taking advantage of the Ontario Network of Excellence
to utilize resources of other companies and share technology ideas. Says Jannatec founder and President Wayne Ablitt, “the new offices have given the company the opportunity to network with other like-minded innovators in the centre.”
Jannatec has just closed their first international deal — a $2 million dollar deal with a Mexican mining company. The company has aggressive plans for international growth. Ablitt projects revenues of $30 million in the near future, and a goal of 10 distributers across the world in the next 18 months. Jannatec already has three: in the UK, Mexico and Chile.
