The University of Western Ontario
Dr. Regna Darnell is a Distinguished University Professor of Anthropology and First Nations Studies at the University of Western Ontario, where she was also founding director of the First Nations Studies Program. She has conducted first-hand ethnographic research among the Plains Cree of northern Alberta and the Algonquian and Iroquoian peoples of southwestern Ontario. Dr. Darnell explores the relationships of First Nations people and communities with the larger Ontario and Canadian society, and highlights the cross-cultural mis-communications that can lead to stereotyping and discrimination. Her academic work has important implications for pubic policy through the analysis of the evolving role of First Nations people in Canadian society.
