Green Schools Pilot Initiative

The Green Schools Pilot Initiative provides clean technology companies with an opportunity to demonstrate the viability of their technology with a well-known reference customer: Ontario’s schools. The initiative seeks to identify, demonstrate and test innovative green products, technologies and services that currently have either no exposure or limited exposure in the Ontario school system. For participating companies, it’s an ideal platform for real-world demonstration of innovative green technologies, helping them to expand into the local, North American, and global markets.

To deliver the GSPI, the Ministry of Economic Development and Innovation (MEDI) and Ministry of Education (EDU) built on their core strengths.  MEDI levered its experience and strength in identifying and analysing new technology, while EDU co-ordinated the implementation and ultimate funding approval with Ontario’s school boards.  Expressions of Interest for this initiative were accepted until May 5, 2009.  Submissions to this initiative are no longer being accepted.

The GSPI will see the implementation of innovative green technologies in over 150 schools across Ontario with 23 different clean technology companies.

More information on GSPI can be found at: http://www.edu.gov.on.ca/eng/parents/greenSchools.html

Although the GSPI process is now closed, the Government of Ontario remains committed to leveraging Ontario’s buying power to make Ontario more competitive, innovative, and sustainable.  Through the Green Focus on Innovation and Technology, or GreenFIT, the government is building on the GSPI and expanding its search for innovative green technologies that can be purchased, tested and ultimately demonstrated/ showcased by the Government of Ontario.
