Strategic Opportunities Program (SOP)

Effective immediately, the Ministry of Research and Innovation (MRI) will no longer be accepting applications and/or business plans under the Strategic Opportunities Program (SOP).

The global recession has made it challenging for Ontario businesses to find the capital they need to grow and prosper. Accordingly, the government is shifting resources that were allocated to SOP to other more pressing programs and initiatives.

MRI received a number of interesting proposals under SOP. The ministry will continue to consider all business plans that were received — and deemed complete — before 11:45 a.m. on Monday, March 30, 2009. However, MRI will not consider any new proposals and/or business plans.

The SOP generated a great deal of interest. The ministry will continue to provide a full range of programs and initiatives to accelerate Ontario’s innovation economy.
